Allard M-Type 1949
Up to today I have a problematic relationship with my Allard M-Type DHC (Drophead Coupe 4-seater) and it looks that the previous owner from 1979 onwards had a lot of problems as well. Can we assume that there are cars which bear ghosts ? But now to facts and figures:
Chassis number: 1039 B For the suffix B the Allard-Experts have no explanation and there are some Allards with the suffix A as well without an explanation, because the production records indicate no suffix.

Ownership/Seller
Classic Automobiles of London Ltd. Ownership transfer 02.07.1988 sold to Stewart Dean (on behalf of Porsche Specialist CUP, Hamburg) Probsteikamp 3, 3178 Dannenberg, Germany Ownership transfer Development from 1992 The purchase price has been paid with a substantial withheld for risk coverage of the mechanical problems and weaknesses which had to stay with the seller. Year by year I started again to test the car and found in agreement with the seller, that the problems have not been solved. Due to a lack of time to drive the Allard this was not a challenge to me because I had two other fun-cars – VW-Porsche 914/6 from 1970 converted in 1976 to a GT-version and a Citroen 2CV from 1983 -. But due to my partial retirement I have forced the seller by setting deadlines in the autumn of 2003 for a completion of the outstanding repairs up to 01.05.2004. Due to the inability to bring the Allard to the guaranteed status in the due time the car has been transferred in March 2004 to the Vintage Car and Sportcar specialist Steinke in Norderstedt near Hamburg. There the detailed analysis started and the dismantling of the motor. The motor should be completed up to August 2004 and tests of the Allard concerning the other weaknesses should follow. This has been delayed due to racing activities of other clients and of the owner Steinke in agreement to Indian Summer. Nothing proceeded and after receiving an invoice in January 2005 covering the biggest part of the offer for completion of the motor and getting no fixed date for completion protected by penalties we agreed no longer to work together and settled the activities which have been measurable and valuable. So you can see that the history of my Allard was again in line with the experience of Mr.John Howe in 1979 to pick up the Allard in parts and to transfer the car to another garage. So I picked up the Allard and the motor in parts separately and transferred the Allard to the specialist Spider Service Hamburg, Berthastrasse 3, 22083 Hamburg www.spider-service.de where the overhaul of the body work started to get rid of the weaknesses I had found in the past by driving the Allard. The Motor went to a Ford V 8 specialist. So the Allard was back on the street in April 2, 2006 and started for the first roll out with my friends of the Vintage Car Club DAVC.
The story of and with my Allard will be completed soon! Pictures and activities can be found under Events from this Website
